What's in a wedding colour?

What’s in a colour?

When planning your wedding one of the first things to consider is the colour scheme.  The wedding colours you choose can reveal more about you than you may think. Colours reflect your personality and your inner most thoughts.

As  wedding photographers covering the whole of the West Midlands, we have seen many beautiful colour schemes and no two are ever exactly the same. So often on the day the chosen colours reflect the mood of the day, so pick wisely!

Whether you pick your colour scheme to reflect the season or because it just feels right for the venue, it always says something about you.

So what’s in a colour?

White/ivory – reflecting simplicity, comfort, innocence and perfection.    It is the colour of new beginnings, possibly reflecting a very relaxed and calm wedding.    It will create a sense of peace, calm and comfort.  If white – and shades of white – is your main colour theme you are probably a perfectionist, wanting everything to be neat and tidy.

Orange – a very warm, positive and optimistic colour.  The colour orange oozes warmth and friendliness and if this is your chosen colour, then you are probably a social animal, but don’t crave being THE centre of attention.   You probably have a very good circle of friends.

Yellow – cheerful, happy and uplifting.  Yellow will brighten everyone’s mood.  The bride who chooses yellow as her main colour theme could well be a little impulsive, but a very joyous person.  Again, she probably has a very good circle of true friends and could be well the one to lift someone’s spirits when they are feeling a little down.

Red – the colour of passion, desire and excitement.   If red is your main wedding colour, you are usually not afraid of being centre of attention.  More likely you are confident, energetic and can’t wait for the big day!

Green – a very calm, restful colour.   This is usually chosen by the well-balanced bride –a very kind and considerate person with the need to love and to be loved.    You will be thinking of your guests during the whole of your wedding plans and you will probably want to look after them on the day so don’t forget this is YOUR day!

Blue – a very honest, truthful colour which will create a relaxed and peaceful mood for your wedding day.  If your chosen colour is blue, you are probably a very honest person and are looking for tranquillity.  You like order and will manage your wedding plans meticulously.

Pink – the colour of unconditional love and understanding, warmth, thoughtfulness and sensitivity.  The bride who chooses pink for their main colour is sensitive to others, a very warm and generous person with a tenderness which people love.   A darker pink will mean there are signs of passion and energy, whilst a light pink will reflect a more softer, open person.

Purple – an imaginative and creative colour.  If purple is your chosen colour, you may well want your wedding to be unique – your creativity will shine through and you are likely to have some new ideas people haven’t seen before.  Purple is the colour of sensitivity and compassion and you may find you start thinking of your guests’ expectations rather than your own.  Remember this is YOUR wedding.

So, how did we do?   We would love some feedback on whether your chosen wedding colour reflects your plans and personality – or does the wedding date and season determine your colour more?   Let us know by posting on our Facebook page or Tweeting us!
